Metatarsalgia

Metatarsalgia is pain located in the forefoot, at the level of the heads of the metatarsals (bones located just before the toes).

The main causes include:

  • mechanical overload (excessive pressure on the forefoot due to unsuitable footwear or poor weight distribution)
  • foot deformities (hollow foot, flat foot, hallux valgus, claws)
  • repetitive activities (high impact sports or activities on hard surfaces)
  • le surpoids
  • les troubles arthrosiques

Footwear should be changed as soon as pain appears to limit its progression. Then consult a chiropodist to carry out an assessment and adapt an orthopaedic insole to reduce the joint load.
