Nail fungus

Nail fungus

Mycosis or onychomycosis is characterised by the proliferation of a fungus under the nail and accounts for 50% of nail infections.

These lesions are caused by plant microbes (dermatophytes are the most common) which lead to a change in the colour and texture of the nail and the nail bed, i.e. the skin beneath the nail.

Aesthetic and sometimes functional discomfort when the nail becomes detached or thickened can be a real suffering that does not improve with local chemical treatments.

Diagnosis

When the nail and nail bed are affected, the nail appears whitened, yellowed or opaque, with a crumbly or thickened texture.
A mistake or late diagnosis can worsen the condition of your nails. Some patients think they are suffering from a fungal infection, when in fact they are suffering from microtrauma to the nail, which can slow down treatment. If in doubt, consult a chiropodist to confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment

Nail fungus is treated by applying antifungal agents to the affected area. At our clinic, we complement the treatment with a care technique using specialised equipment, which aims to improve the appearance of the nail from the very first consultation, while eradicating the fungal infection for good.

THE PODERM METHOD

The PODERM® method for mycotic nails involves cleaning the nail affected by the fungus using a unique instrument. This treatment technique, carried out by our nail specialists, is completely painless and thoroughly cleans the fungal residues that proliferate on the nail. It offers visual results from the very first appointment and reduces the risk of recurrence.
