Morton's syndrome, or Morton's neuroma, is a painful foot condition characterised by inflammation or thickening of the interdigital nerve located between the toes, usually between the third and fourth metatarsals.
The cause is often mechanical (unsuitable footwear or mechanical overload) and can lead to functional symptoms such as burning, numbness or painful discharges.
Where possible, a custom-made soft silicone interdigital orthotic (orthoplasty) can be made at the clinic. This is highly effective in 98% of cases, avoiding the need for orthopaedic insoles and surgery.
In other cases, particularly where there is associated metatarsalgia, we offer orthopaedic insoles with a retrocapital pad to relieve pressure on the forefoot.
To limit the progression of the pathology and avoid irreversible damage to the nerve, consult a podiatrist as soon as possible for a podiatric assessment.
